The heroine's husband is away on a business trip, when a body is found in the lot adjacent to their new home she designed. That is not all that goes on in the next few days, as her husband can't be found, other murders occur and the new neighborhood begins to fall apart, and not only socially. The heroine is nicely drawn and will prove easy to root for. The neighbors are not at all dull in their activities and the homes they live in are also having their problems: they are falling apart much to the dismay of the homeowners and denial by their hard-hearted developer.A good one for cozy readers, not really a solvable puzzle for classic mystery fans.

This ebook is good and I say pay the 99 cents to read something scary, fun and different. Not having read this author before, I judged her book by its stylised purple and yellow cover and the catchy "Homeowners Handbook" title. I was rewarded with an engaging and scary story. I was drawn in by her excellently developed characters and I like the way she writes her story, with humour and pragmatism, set in the home (or the property dream that so many of us pursue). Ms Kemp is a witty and observant writer and I like her view of the world. Having been married and built various houses myself over many years, I applaud the way Ms Kemp realistically captured, with simple deft sentences, the poignant heart wrenching truths and strains about marital and structural foundations. And the author takes us on a from-bad-to-worse journey where I honestly laughed outloud in several places and checked my house for boogie men after one late night reading session! Great read. I want to read more of her work.
Book was paced well with realistic plot lines. Would like to have had a better wrap up at the end, perhaps a one year later view.
Murder, intrigue, kooky neighbors, flaring tempers - this book has them all. If you've ever built a house you might cringe knowingly about all the things that could go wrong, but hopefully you've never had to deal with a murder (or a peeping Tom). I liked how the story developed, with a few twists and turns thrown in. And it was completely believable. Great read! I'm looking forward to more books by this author.
